Plant Reproduction

September 11th, 2011

At this time, I have four pieces in process.

One is Night Tree, the frosty tree with silvered acorns.  I’m not quite happy with the barrenness of the tree and will add some smaller branches to fill it out.

Two, I’m working on a male and a female plant “reproducing” human style.

Three, my life cycle cyclone.  I still need to make fruits and leaves and then attach them all to the cyclone.

And finally, a collaborative piece with Susan Longini.  www.susanlongini.com

After these pieces I think I will do a plant baby I have been envisioning.

Windmills

September 11th, 2011

My series of windmills has continued with two more pieces.  One is a simple geometric design and the other is titled From a Windmill Seed.  This second piece was commissioned by friends and patrons Ted and Melissa Lagreid.  The windmill plant disperses its seeds through the spinning of its “blades”.

Back to School

August 9th, 2011

Happily, I just signed up for an Advanced Sculpture class this fall at De Anza College.  I have some ideas for combining paper with my glass and I will work on those in my class.

Night Tree

August 9th, 2011

This is the tree I have been working on.

Night Tree represents those moments in the middle of the night when we wake up, can’t sleep, and there we are, alone with our thoughts, fears, secrets, worries, dreams, fantasies, and who or whatever God is to us. The knothole “pocket” holds silvered acorns – a secret place for us to store all those thoughts, fears, secrets, worries, and dreams.

I’m not sure I’m happy with the tree yet, and might experiment with smaller twigs off the main branches to fill it in a bit.
